Lai is a French form and has the following features:

1. 9 line , one stanza
2. This style follows the following rhyme scheme : a a b a a b a a b 
3. All a lines have 5 syllables; all b lines have 2 syllables

Here is a poem attempted by me;

TITLE : PRISONER OF THE PAST

Darkness engulfs me,

I yearn to break free,

I’m caged…

Past wounds still appear,

How I shrink with fear

and pain…

My dreams turn dreary,

The paths seem misty

and wane…
