When Dirges transformed to Melodies

by Gowri Bhargav

Caged in a bottomless abyss I always tethered to light,

Creatures of the dark taunted me with vicious screams,

I emerged with wings of gold despite the dreary dreams,

Caged in a bottomless abyss I always tethered to light.

Creatures of the dark taunted me with vicious screams,

Ruthless were the gifts you’d bequeathed to me,

But with grit I mustered the courage and set them free,

Creatures of the dark taunted me with vicious screams.

Ruthless were the gifts you’d bequeathed to me,

I transformed the haunting dirges into sweet melodies,

The piercing echoes in my head slowly did cease,

Ruthless were the gifts you had bequeathed to me.

I transformed the haunting dirges into sweet melodies,

Overtime peace prevailed in the sanctuary of my mind,

Dusting all the past memories unkind

I transformed the haunting dirges into sweet melodies.

Caged in a bottomless abyss I tethered to light,

Creatures of the dark taunted me with vicious screams,

I emerged with wings of gold despite the dreary dreams,

Because, caged in a bottomless abyss I tethered to light.

Poetry Style : Catena Rondo

The poem is comprised of a variable number of quatrains (4-line stanza)

Each quatrain has a rhyme pattern of AbbA

The capital letters mean the same word, a repeat.

Each stanza will have different repeated words (see sample poem)

The second line of each quatrain is the first line of the next quatrain

The final quatrain should repeat the first quatrain word for word

There are no rules for meter, syllables, or subject matter. Just a lot of rhyming refrains.
