Terracotta Love

‘Neath the amber glow of terracotta sunset,

You and me, along the ocean shore,

Weaving verses with our sun-kissed lips,

Exchanging promises with our eloquent eyes,

Built castles of sand in hues myriad.

I dug the sand with my fingers deep,

You sprinkled water, and oh! My heart did leap,

With passion and love we patted and shaped and made it strong,

Adorned it painstakingly with shells and stones for hours long,

How lovely it looked beside the sea!

Our throbbing hearts had built it soulfully…

Alas! All the euphoria was ephemeral,

Soon it crashed in oblivion,

Just like the ardent story our hearts had spun.

My terracotta dreams now lies shattered ‘neath,

As my enfeebled heart struggles to breathe.
