A Dog’s Story

Once a stray dog, I roamed every street,

In dingy dumpsters I hunted for treats,

No home, no roof above my head,

‘Neath the open sky I made my bed.

I hoped for a good life some day,

To keep all my worries far at bay,

A lavish place to call my home,

Without fear I wished to roam.

A passer-by adopted me,

I thanked my stars and felt happy,

I bid adieu to my friends gladly,

But the impending doom I didn’t foresee.

I was leashed with a chain strong,

In solitude I had to stay for long,

A cozy bed but sleepless nights,

Tasty food but loss of appetite.

Reigning in hell is far better

All my dreams have turned bitter,

I don’t wish to serve in heaven anymore,

This jailed life I seek no more.
