Rapunzel’s Flight to Freedom

by Gowri Bhargav

Theme : A Fairytale Rewritten

Long ago, in a tower tall, there lived an imprisoned princess,

Rapunzel was her name, long was her hair,

She didn’t need a prince to rescue her, ‘cause her strength was no less.

A vile witch had captured her and thrown her in distress,

To reach the heights above, none chose to dare,

Long ago, in a tower tall, there lived an imprisoned princess.

Her strengths and weaknesses, Rapunzel did assess,

Oh! Never did she drown herself in despair,

She didn’t need a prince to rescue her, ‘cause her strength was no less.

She lifted weights, sculpted her core with absolute finesse,

Her chopped hair transformed to battle ropes, her arm strength– beyond compare,

Long ago, in a tower tall, there lived an imprisoned princess.

She honed her intellect by playing the game of chess,

With her mind and body she strived to prepare,

She didn’t need a prince to rescue her, ‘cause her strength was no less.

Eventually the witch was no match for Rapunzel’s strength–she became helpless,

Her strategies, with the world, Rapunzel did proudly share,

Long ago, in a tower tall, there lived an imprisoned princess,

She didn’t need a prince to rescue her, ‘cause her strength was no less.
